Eagle Point Launches $25M Defensive Income Fund
Single-investor trust signals continued demand for private income-focused strategies in 2025.
April 24, 2025

New Trust, Targeted Execution
Eagle Point just launched a new trust built for precision. The Eagle Point Defensive Income Trust, a Delaware-based statutory trust formed earlier this year, completed a $25 million raise—fully committed by a single institutional investor. It’s structured for simplicity: a one-and-done offering, with capital secured and deployed under Rule 506(b) of Regulation D.
The trust is classified as a pooled investment fund registered under the Investment Company Act of 1940. With no plans to extend the offering or raise additional capital, the intent is clear— targeted execution, fast deployment, and direct alignment
with one investor’s needs.
Who’s Behind It
Eagle Point Defensive Income Management LLC is managing the trust. The leadership includes:
- Thomas P. Majewski, Chief Executive Officer
- Kenneth P. Onorio, Chief Financial Officer
- A group of seasoned directors providing oversight
Raymond James & Associates handled the solicitation and received a $500,000 commission. No finders’ fees were paid, and no portion of the proceeds will go to the fund’s executives or promoters. This structure keeps the focus on investing, not overhead.
Defensive by Design
While the filing doesn’t spell out the strategy, the name gives a strong hint. Think income generation with downside awareness
—an approach designed to navigate the current rate environment without unnecessary risk. It’s also aligned with Eagle Point’s broader footprint in income-oriented and structured credit strategies.
What It Means for the Market
This latest launch reinforces a growing trend: institutional investors are allocating capital to tightly scoped vehicles that deliver exposure on their terms. The trust is:
- Fully capitalized
- Regulated under the 1940 Act
- Backed by a leadership team with execution experience
For firms looking to stay responsive in today’s market, this is one more example of how that’s getting done.
