William Goebel named CFO and Treasurer as two senior executives step down.
December 31, 2025

FS Credit Opportunities Corp. is closing out the year with a leadership change—and a plan in place to keep things moving. The company has announced the upcoming departure of two senior executives, alongside a seamless transition to a new financial leader. Both changes take effect at the end of the business day on December 31, 2025.
Edward T. Gallivan, Jr., the company’s Chief Financial Officer, and Stephen S. Sypherd, its Treasurer, each submitted their resignations on December 19. According to the company, neither resignation stemmed from disagreements or issues with operations, policies, or practices.
To maintain continuity, the board of directors acted quickly. William Goebel will step in as Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer, effective immediately following the year-end resignations. He wasn’t brought in under any preexisting arrangement, has no family ties to company leadership, and isn’t involved in any related party transactions. He’ll also serve in the role without receiving direct compensation from FS Credit Opportunities Corp.
Goebel brings over two decades of experience in investment accounting and financial leadership. He’s currently Chief Accounting Officer for several affiliated investment platforms, including:
- KKR FS Income Trust Select (since 2023)
- KKR FS Income Trust (since 2022)
- FS KKR Capital Corp. (since 2019)
His prior positions include serving as FS KKR Capital Corp.’s Chief Financial Officer from 2011 to 2019 and Treasurer from 2018 to 2020.
Before joining FS Investments, Goebel built his career in public accounting. He spent eight years at Ernst & Young LLP in its asset management practice, where he led audits across investment companies, private funds, broker-dealers, and investment advisors. He began his career at the regional firm Tait, Weller and Baker LLP in 1997.
Goebel holds a B.S. in Economics from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. He’s a Certified Public Accountant and a CFA charterholder.
With this appointment, FS Credit Opportunities is drawing from familiar talent with deep knowledge of its broader investment platform. It’s a straightforward move that keeps financial leadership aligned heading into the new year, while supporting continuity across the company’s finance and accounting functions.
